How to braze copper or copper alloy pipes

1. Clean pipe surfaces to remove dirt and oil.

2. apply an even coat of flux to the entire area to be brazed to prevent an oxide reaction which blackens metal and effects brazing

3. Light the blowtorch

4. Heat the pipe evenly until the entire area begins to redden(approximately 30 seconda per mm). Direct the flame towards the pipe and moving it over the entie area. holding the nozzle 4-7cm from the pipe.

5. When the pipe glows cherry red. place brazing rod against the surface to be brazed and heat until the rod begins to melt,coating the surface to be brazed. Continue to apply even heat to make a smooth join.

6.After brazing,allow to cool then clean the pipe with wire wool or brush to remove any oxide or remaining flux.

Tips for good brazing

1.Before starting,check to make sure the pipe to be brazed is copper or copper alloy compatible with the brazing rod supplied.

2.A split or crack larger than 0.1mm will be difficult to repair.

3.Thoroughly clean the surface to be brazed

4.Use enough flux to cover entire area.

5.Heat area to be brazed until it glows cherry red before beginning to work with the brazing rod.
